EDUCATION PROJECT BP-SE5 IN BOLIVIA

Volunteer Project in Bolivia

BP-SE5

Description:

This volunteer project in Bolivia runs in Santiago de Okola, a small rural community on the shores of Lake Titikaka, at about 3 hours from La Paz. Here, several organizations have been working with the community in areas of agricultural production, primary education, eco-tourism and water management. This specific volunteer project is focused on the educational aspect of the program. You will be helping out at the primary community college, assisting the teachers in various subjects, mainly with the English classes.

Activities:

Volunteers help out at the school and in the school garden. You will mainly teach English so that the local inhabitants learn how to communicate better with the tourists visiting their community. All volunteers stay at a Bolivian host family during their program, therefore you will get to know first-hand all about the local traditions and get the chance to taste delicious typical Andean meals.

Requirements:

Volunteers must have the following capabilities:

  • Intermediate to advanced level of Spanish
  • Creativity, flexibility and self-motivation
  • Willingness to live in a remote small town
  • Experience in organizing oneself and time and self-care under possibly stressful conditions
  • Experience and interest in working with children between the ages of 4 -15
  • Work in teams for different (environmental) education activities.

Minimum:

Volunteers need to commit to a minimum of 4 weeks.

Work Schedule:

Most volunteers work Monday through Friday from 8 to 12 and 15 to 18 hours.

Spanish:

Volunteers should speak Spanish to a conversational level. Keep in mind that the better your Spanish skills, the more valuable and enjoyable your volunteer experience. If you do not speak Spanish at all, it is advisable to first take Spanish classes. We can help you to arrange a Spanish course in La Paz before starting your volunteer program in Santiago de Okola.
